Google Hangouts now Available for @iws.edu Accounts!

Due to concerns about privacy and security, IWS has not allowed @iws.edu accounts to participate in the Google+ network. I’m excited to pass on the news that Google Hangouts, the most-requested feature of Google+, is now available to faculty, students, staff and alumni with an @iws.edu account and a Google+ account is not needed to make use of this technology. While Hangouts can be used in place of Skype or FaceTime to catch up with somebody when a true face-to-face meeting is not possible, it has tremendous potential for group applications like Practicum planning, Alumni cohorts, and staff/faculty collaboration. Here is more information about the Google Hangouts product.

From Google:

Starting today, Hangouts video meetings support any Google Apps customer account, including those without a Google+ profile. Any Google Apps customer can start or join a high-definition video meeting that connects 15 participants—from a computer or Chromebox for meetings device and coming soon to mobile phone and tablet.
(Hangouts is now covered under the same Terms of Service that support other Google Apps for Business/Education products, like Gmail and Drive.)
