Faculty & Staff Transitions, January 2017

Academic Dean Dr. Eric Ohlmann

Academic Dean Dr. Eric Ohlmann announced his retirement effective by June 30 at the latest. “On behalf of the faculty, staff and board of IWS I am deeply appreciative of Dean Ohlmann’s dedicated 4 years of service as our Academic Dean, along with his previous tenure as our Director of Accreditation when we achieved initial accreditation with ABHE,” said IWS President Dr. James R. Hart. During Dean Ohlmann’s tenure as dean, IWS has hired outstanding faculty, and created and strengthened policies. Additionally, due in large part to Dean Ohlmann’s experience with the graduate theological school accrediting body, the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), the IWS Faculty and Board of Trustees voted in June to pursue a second accreditation with ATS.

Vice President of Spiritual Life

Also in the January session, Dr. Hart appointed Dean of the Chapel Dr. Darrell Harris to be the Vice President of Spiritual Life. V.P. Harris has served IWS as the Chaplain and Dean of the Chapel since the very first session in June of 1999, and has been the spearhead of the vibrant spiritual life of IWS, setting a strong servant leadership ethos for the school. His appointment enables him actively to train others in the chaplaincy role while still bearing responsibility for the overall spiritual direction for IWS, especially during the on-campus sessions.

Director of Advancement

In addition, Mrs. Carol Shutters announced that she will be stepping down as the Director of Advancement due to increased family responsibilities.
