Jan 16, 2017: First Priority

Robert E. Webber

The season after Epiphany to the beginning of Lent . . . celebrates [a] progressive unveiling of God’s glory manifest in Jesus and invites us to order our spiritual journey around the Christ manifest in history, manifest in us. . . . Once the spiritual journey into Jesus has begun, Jesus expects everything of us. . . . Discipleship requires an immediate and abrupt change of life. The early disciples underwent a radical reorientation of their allegiances, their occupations, their entire lives. An epiphany had occurred for them. . . . We stand in line with the apostolic community, called of God as they were. Like them, we are called to drop the nets that occupy our lives and make Christ the first priority.
