Here [is the last of] five practical suggestions that will help Communion become a more powerful medium for communicating God’s saving work and our appropriation of it. . . . 5. Sing [songs] during Communion that reflect both God’s work and our response. Music itself is both a verbal and symbolic form of communication. . . . What we say and do as a congregation produces a union between Christ’s self-giving and the giving of ourselves in the world. This is ritual communication, which shapes our lives and forms our attitudes and perspectives.
