Aug 23, 2021: The Church is Apostolic

Robert E. Webber

The concept of apostolicity indicates that the church is intimately linked to and built on the past. . . . Evangelicals can stand with Catholics and Orthodox in the affirmation of the apostolic tradition as summarized in the rule of faith, the Apostle’s Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Chalcedon Creed. We can affirm that the work of the church is to “hand down” this apostolic tradition. . . . The church is a community of faithful Christians, all of whom stand in apostolic succession in the broadest sense of the term. The church, in other words, hands down the church. . . . What we have in common with each other is a Christianity rooted in the apostolic tradition.
