The church as a transforming presence in the world stands in the tradition of those Scripture passages that emphasize the power of the gospel to change not only the life of an individual but also the life of culture. . . . The church’s responsibility on earth is to witness the transformation of the world so that “your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10) may become a reality. . . . Acting as the soul to the body, we generate a transforming presence in the world.
