Our spirituality is not accomplished by our initiative but by God, who became incarnate as Jesus Christ, his Son, the second Adam, to do for us what we are unable to do for ourselves—unite us to God. So the spiritual life, that is union with God and walking in his way, is not what we do, not our works, but the enablement of the Spirit to do God’s purposes in the world.
