New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation normally begins on the Tuesday preceding each On-Campus Intensive. All new students enrolling in the masters and doctoral programs (including students moving from the MWS program into the DWS program) are expected to attend this two-day program, which is designed to facilitate community-building, train students in research techniques and equip them to use the technological tools required for IWS. Students should plan to arrive on Tuesday by 1:30 pm.

For the January 2013 session, an abbreviated New Student Orientation will be held on Wednesday, January 2 due to the New Year holiday. The times for Wednesday’s Orientations sessions have not yet been determined. To make up for the shortened session, supplemental Orientation sessions will be held later in the week.

A detailed schedule will be posted closer to the Intensive. Typically, sessions run on Tuesday from 1:30pm-7:00pm and on Wednesday from 8:00am-3:00pm. Supper on Tuesday in addition to breakfast and lunch on Wednesday are included in the Orientation Fee, and attendance at those meals is mandatory for new students. Please note that students should not plan other activities during orientation; there are no optional sessions.

If you have any questions about orientation, please contact Sandy Dinkins, Director of Student Services, at 800-282-2977 x101.
