Oct 18, 2021: Understanding Christian Worship

Robert E. Webber

Jewish worship celebrates those events in history through which God acted decisively to redeem Israel. . . . The celebration of the exodus experience through recitation (synagogue) and dramatization (Passover) is the key to understanding the meaning of Christian worship. In worship we tell the story of Israel and Jesus in the service of the Word and we enact the story at the Table. Like Israel, we rehearse God’s mighty deeds of salvation and offer thankful praise and worship to God who saves us.
