Mar 28, 2022: Anamnesis

Robert E. Webber

Eucharistic spirituality is related to healing and nourishment. God does for us in the Eucharist what God did for us in the Christ event. The remembrance is not a mere intellectual recall, as in Enlightenment theology, but an anamnesis in which the divine action of God brings to us the forgiveness of our sins and the healing of our broken lives. There is a mysterious and nonunderstandable presence of Christ through the human materiality of bread and wine. Just as the promise of God is in the Word, so the promise of God is communicated to us through the bread and wine.
