Dr. Dan SharpThroughout Scripture God marks time with special feast days such as Passover, Pentecost, and the Feast of Tabernacles. The early Church celebrated significant days in the life of Christ. He was the marker of time. The Church took the centrality of Jesus, the Alpha and the Omega liter- ally. Epiphany and the Nativity came into being in the early centuries along with Passover (Easter) and Pentecost. By the fifth century the season of Advent began to emerge, settling on the four Sundays prior to Christmas Day by the early sixth century. Jesus Christ was the focal point of each of these seasons.

Editor’s Note: Dan Sharp produced this devotional guide for La Jolla Community Church. Although it’s a little late in the current observance of Advent, we nonetheless hope it is a blessing to you now and a resource for your future ministry.
